This award-winning play explores the cultural, social and political significance of Black women’s hair. Through dynamic storytelling and music, it delves into themes of identity, self-esteem, race and resilience, offering a profound commentary on beauty standards, history and empowerment. The success of Black To My Roots since its 2002 debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, including its 25th Anniversary production in 2024, showcases its enduring relevance. With upcoming global tours and adaptations, these African American tales clearly continue to resonate deeply with audiences worldwide.

    ‘Many times I wanted to step off the train of life, but faith and hard work kept me tethered to my seat.’ Cambridge-educated eye-surgeon Sola Amure returns to the fringe with an interactive presentation of his inspirational memoir Beyond the Horizon Might Be Better. The book tells the story of his life, from an abusive childhood divided between Nigeria and England to confronting prejudice from both NHS staff and patients as a medical professional.
