Contemporary Kiltmaking: What Makes A Kilt?

Contemporary kiltmaker Andrea Chappell explores the practice of kiltmaking, looking at traditional pleating techniques and their contemporary translations. Based in Moray in the North East of Scotland, Andrea's kilts focus on incorporating vintage fabrics and deadstock alongside classic tartans and heritage tweeds in a slow and sustainable means of making that upholds the traditional hand stitched method, now listed as an endangered craft. Andrea's kilts will be on display at the venue, the Scottish Textiles Showcase, 20 St Mary's Street.
